'Do you experience any dizziness or vertigo?'

This is a question you no doubt ask on your routine intake forms and in your initial case history, regardless of your clinic setting.

But what do you ask next?

    • If the answer is 'no' - do you leave it at that, or probe for more?
    • If the answer is 'yes' - what follow-up questions do you ask, and what do you do with the information given to you?

In the rehabilitation setting,  we may skip straight to asking about tinnitus, head injuries or noise exposure as the next step. Let's take the opportunity to dig a little deeper in our case history, and think about what we really need to know and why. As non-vestibular audiologists, physiotherapists, audiometrists, other allied health providers, or general practitioners, we are broadly aware that we need to refer dizzy patients for specialized follow-up assessment. But how do we gather the most relevant and detailed information to inform these referrals, and direct the patient to the most effective help with the correct degree of urgency?

Grant Collins is a past President of Independent Audiologists Australia, Director and Principal Audiologist at QLD Vestibular + Cochlear Clinic, and a vestibular audiologist with many years of experience working closely with a multi-disciplinary team of ENT specialists, neurologists, physiotherapists and general practitioners. Join Grant for a deep dive into the case history for dizzy patients, identification of vestibular red flags, and a guide to efficient referral pathways.

Note: Attendance at this session is intended to enhance the knowledge base and improve the confidence of non-vestibular clinicians of all disciplines. All are welcome to attend: audiologists, audiometrists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, other allied health professionals, general practitioners and nurses.

This webinar is NOT intended to expand scope of practice beyond registrants' existing qualifications and training.

You will not become ready to provide vestibular assessments, diagnoses or rehabilitation following this webinar without further training and supervised practice.

You will become better at taking a detailed vestibular case history, understanding the implications of patients' reported symptoms and presentation, and planning for timely and appropriate onward referral for specialist services!

We look forward to seeing you there!

**Rise & Grind Breakfast Series Webinars are recorded and made available to registrants for post-event viewing. We hope you can join us live, but if you're not able to make it on the day you are still welcome to register, and you will receive access to the recording to view at your convenience.**

Join us for a practical and insightful breakfast webinar that will boost your confidence in an often-daunting clinical scenario for time-poor but caring Audiologists: supporting patients with troublesome tinnitus. In this session, we are delighted to host not one but two leaders in the field of tinnitus rehabilitation.

Paula Sieradzki is a psychologist with extensive experience in both corporate settings and private practice. She has a particular interest in tinnitus and its management. Several years ago, Paula and her clinic colleague at the time, psychologist Dr. Anna Kittle, began working together on a digital health resource designed to assist with tinnitus management. Although Dr. Kittle is no longer practising, their collaboration resulted in the development of Tune Out. This computer-based program incorporates cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques along with other practical tools aimed at improving quality of life for those experiencing tinnitus.

Myriam Westcott is an Audiologist and Director of DWM Audiology, and is a valued member and past President of Independent Audiologists Australia. DWM Audiology is a leading tinnitus and hyperacusis clinic in Australia, which is renowned internationally. Myriam specialises in tinnitus, hyperacusis, acoustic shock, tensor tympani syndrome (TTS) and misophonia understanding, evaluation and therapy. She is committed to the development of innovative and effective clinical approaches to therapy and treatment, working closely with a range of health/medical professionals in a multidisciplinary setting. Myriam has carried out clinically based hyperacusis, acoustic shock and TTS published research, provides medico-legal opinions and regularly gives presentations, lectures, training, articles and interviews on tinnitus, hyperacusis, acoustic shock and misophonia. Myriam is a member of the Advisory Committee for Tinnitus Australia, provides support to the Tinnitus Association of Victoria and is on the scientific committee for the International Conference on Hyperacusis and Misophonia.

    The session will cover:

    • An overview of Myriam's clinical work, and an update on current tinnitus theory and various management approaches.
    • Paula's journey into tinnitus rehabilitation from a psychologist's perspective, and the reasons why CBT remains one of the most effective methods for managing troublesome tinnitus.
    • An introduction to a new digital health tool, Tune Out—what it is, how it works, and how it could complement face-to-face tinnitus management approaches, and augment traditional audiological and psychological care.

This session will provide practical insights into how person-centred care for patients experiencing troublesome tinnitus can still be prioritised in a generalist clinic setting - even with limited clinical time, you can offer these sometimes anxious or angry patients validation, hope, and a pathway forward. While digital health tools like Tune Out don't negate the need to refer for or provide specialist Audiology and/or Psychology support, they can represent a bridge to these services, or complement a specialist tinnitus program when appropriate.

The webinar will conclude with a live Q&A session.

Don't miss this opportunity to broaden your tinnitus management toolkit with in-depth knowledge, practical strategies and innovative digital resources.

All Rise & Grind Breakfast Series webinars are recorded and made available to registrants following the event. We hope you can join us live, but if you can't join us on the day we welcome you to register and watch the recording at your leisure.
